Solo Show FAQ
Q: Can anyone really be the next Solo Show artist? What about my preschooler – she’s the next Marla Olmstead!
Submitters must be 18 or older.
Q: I’m a basket-weaving-modern-dancing-film-making-painter. Will you accept my work?
Our judges are interested in seeing work of ALL mediums, including (and definitely not limited to): sculpture, photography, painting, printmaking, illustration, installation, graphic design, video and more.
Q: How many works can I submit?
We reccomend a minimum of three images per artist. However, the more you give our judges to work with, the better chance you have of being selected and the bigger discount you get!
Q: Is there a submission fee?
*1,2 or 3 images for $15/image
*5 images for $60
*10 images for $85 *BEST VALUE!
Q: What if my file is the wrong size? What if my bio isn’t long enough?!
Don't worry! We will contact you if we, or the judges, need any additional information.
Q. What if I don’t have digital copies of my work? How should I submit my best stuff?
Sorry, but 3rd Ward only accepts submissions through our online form. We cannot accept submissions that are mailed or hand delivered to us. Try taking a picture of your work and submitting it that way!
Q: Are transactions on your website secure?
Yes. We use the latest encryption technology and trusted processers to make sure your personal information is kept confidential and private.
Q: Can I submit if I live outside of the US? I have a sexy accent.
Yes. Our Solo Show is open to artists around the world! Airfare & shipping to and from 3rd Ward is provided for any Solo Show Artist located outside of NYC. The selected artist will also be awarded an optional 3-month Residency including access to a private live/work studio, photo studios, a professional wood & metal shop, media lab, office space, more than 100 classes in art & design and our community of professional artists & designers.
Q: What if I have my own studio and don't need the 3-month residency? OR What if I can only use the residency for 2-months?
A. No Problem! The Residency Program was developed to help Solo Show Artists create work, not to pin them down with space or tools they don't need. The residency is not mandatory and we are flexible about the timeline.

Q: So, say I win – what are YOU going to do for ME?
The Selected Artist will receive a:
* $5,000 cash grant
* Solo exhibition in 3rd Ward's gallery, complete with a massive opening reception
* Optional 3-month residency at 3rd Ward including live/work studio & full facility access (photo studios, wood & metal shop, media lab, classes)
* Airfare & shipping to and from 3rd Ward for non-NYC residents
* 2-page spread in 3rd Ward's Quarterly Magazine
* NYC wide exposure - postcards, fliers, press!
Q: If I have a Solo Show at 3rd Ward are you going to take a cut from the work I sell?
No. 3rd Ward does not take a percentage of any work sold through our Solo Shows.

The selected artist will be announced within two months of the close of the call!
