Calling all Animators

Nickelodeon is looking for entries for their annual Animation Festival. The Nickelodeon Animation Festival is the first and only multi-platform animation festival in North America. The festival, the largest of its kind, showcases animators from around the world who submit their original animation, ideas and characters for a chance to win great prizes. The festival also offers animators the unique opportunity of having their work broadcast on-air, online, and shown at a live event at the Nickelodeon Studios in Burbank, California.

Show 'em how it's done, New Yorkers!

Moviehouse hits the handball courts at Sternberg Park in Brooklyn

This summer Moviehouse and the Open Space Alliance present CinemaParque, a series of six screenings projected on the handball courts of Sternberg Park in Brooklyn. Every other Wednesday, starting July 1, both sides of the handball wall feature remarkable Spanish-language shorts, videos and documentaries (complete with sub-titles.)

This Wednesday six massively talented filmmakers aged 14-21 present honest films on their experiences with immigration, sexual identity and unfair labor practices in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn.

Filmmakers Desiree Camacho, Michael Vasquez, Jeremy Lopez, Joshua Carrero, Bryan Lopez, Patricia Torres are part of New Children/ New York, a program that uses filmmaking to tell the stories of young NYC Latino/as from their unique points of view.

For the past 3 years, the project has been training young people in Bushwick, Brooklyn to make films about their striking lives. They have made nearly 30 videos about their personal concerns, which have shown on television, the web, in many public screenings and at youth and major film festivals.

Sternberg Park is located at Lorimer Street and Boerum Street in East Williamsburg http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Lorimer+Street+and+Boerum+Street,+Brooklyn,+NY&ie=UTF8&split=0&gl=us&ei=CSRKSu3UJJO2NovVhJcB&z=16&iwloc=A

Grow your brain at 3rd Ward

With 3rd Ward's Education Program, Even You Can Invent the Square Watermelon.

A round watermelon can take up a lot of room in a refrigerator and often sits awkwardly on refrigerator shelves.

So smart Japanese Farmers have forced their watermelons to grow into a square shape! They insert the melons into square, tempered glass cases while the fruit is still growing on the vine.

Don't waste time, the pineapple's still round, sign up for one of our many classes here!
