So you want to start a business in a creative field? Or perhaps you already have a business, but just never got around to putting together a long-term plan. This class will guide you through the steps of creating a four-year business plan that will save you money, help you get investors, and give you a path to best ensure success in your creative industry. Instruction will be customized to the individual students' fields.
At the end of the six sessions, students will leave the class with a completed business plan that is tailored to their business. Generally, business plans take up to 6 months to research and write, but with guided instructions and tips from a creative professional, students will complete their four-year business plan in only 6 weeks!
This course is dually research and project-based, and will be held primarily in the digital media lab, with some sessions consisting of off-site research. Each session will begin with a brief lecture outlining the daily topics, informing them of the topics’ importance, and how they relate to the creative professional. Students will then open their business plan template, and spend a portion of class researching and customizing the plan with their industry-specific data, with the instructor’s individual assistance and tips on best research practices and methods for writing the plan. By the end of class, students will be one step closer to having completed their business plan and determining the future of their venture. During offsite sessions, students will complete real-time market research, and fill in the data either on their own, or when the class returns to 3rd Ward.
