Lighting on a Budget
Think creatively with light sources and learn how to shape light with limited materials and economic means. Whether you're shooting still or video, we'll cover do-it-yourself skills that you can pull off with common objects found in a typical New York City apartment.
In the first class meeting we'll go over the fundamentals of lighting design and consider how goals for a shoot lead us to our practical lighting approach. We will then proceed to survey a variety of indoor lighting solutions and "MacGyver" equipment rigs.
In the second class, we will capitalize on the most readily avaible source light: the sun. Rain or shine, learn how to adjust natural light to your advantage. We'll move back inside to discuss creative use of exposure, flashlights and flashes. An assignement will be giving to be completed between class one and two. Students should bring their own camera, although it can be any kind of camera, as long as it works (still, video, digital, etc).
