Jig It!
The goal of this course is to familiarize the student with the process of customizing ones' tools to increase accuracy, safety, efficiency and functionality.
We will be building a number of different jigs together, as well as using some that are already made, one of which each student can take home. The process of problem solving will be emphasized, with countless other tips and techniques which will give you the skills and confidence to tackle more difficult projects on your own.
Topics covered will include:
• The different types of jigs and fixtures –what is the difference? What do they do? – the 4 essential functions
• What hardware to have on hand to make your jigs
• The circular saw crosscut jig – an easy one to make for the shop or jobsite.
• The table saw taper jig
• The table saw sled – the most commonly used tool, the most common jig.
• The router circle cutter– a “complicated” tool that can do a lot with a little help.
• The drill press – a few simple tricks for efficiency and accuracy.
