Intro to Woodworking
This course provides students with an in-depth introduction to the woodshop at 3rd Ward. Students will leave the course with a familiarity with all the woodworking power and hand tools the shop is equipped with and will gain practical knowledge needed to work on their own projects or continue with the 3rd Ward shop curriculum.
During the class, you will make two pre-defined projects. The very first day, everyone completes a small project (a mallet or small book platform). Over the next three sessions, you will construct an end table. These projects are designed to use the full array of tools, giving students an in-depth introduction. All project materials will be ordered by 3rd Ward and are included in the cost of the class. While the projects are set in design and scale, students are welcome to embellish or alter the design as they see fit.
This course is required for Furniture Design and other advanced shop courses. In addition to class time, students receive a three-day shop pass (a $300 value) for use between class meetings. It is expected that students will utilize this time in order to finish course projects.
