Guerilla Tape Installation Workshop

Beginning with an exploration of the history of tape, its role in various art and fashion movements, and a survey of tape installation artists, participants will create a variety of individual and collaborative tape installations on 3rd Ward's premises and beyond.

Participants will be introduced to the variety of tapes that are commercially available, and will be encouraged to experiment with the different properties of tape. We will then look at the short history of tape and examine why and how artists and designers, ranging from Thomas Hirschorn to Jim Lambie to various street artists, have co-opted tape for their own usages.

Over the course of this 3 session workshops, participants will collaborate on a couple of smaller tape art-works, such as designing tape carpets, window frames, and creating ‘tape-interventions’ in and around the premises at 3rd Ward. The class will culminate with a large guerrilla tape installation in an outdoor location.
