Furniture Refinishing

Whether you have a family heirloom, a rescued relic, or an Ikea eyesore, we'll take you through the process of revitalizing the luster of old furniture .
In the first session, we will give you an overview of the refinishing process. Students will then repeat the process by removing the existing finish on their piece and preparing it for the next stage.
During the second class, we will outline the advantages and disadvantages of different finishes, complete with a demonstration of refinishing with shellac. Students will then follow suit.
The final session will comprise of finishing and waxing the piece. Students will complete the course having a detailed understanding of the entire finishing process and leave with their refurbished piece.
Because of the high level of practical orientation students should bring their own piece to refinish. Due to space restrictions, we can only accommodate projects up to 2' x 2' x 1'. A small night stand or stool would be ideal. Students wishing to work on larger projects may do so but will not be able to store their project at 3rd Ward between class meetings.
