Comic Books & Cartooning: Sequential Art
Sequential Art, more commonly known as comics and cartooning, is the world's most versatile and popular form of storytelling. Students will learn character development, narrative story-telling, penciling, inking, computer coloring, and pre-press design for production. Through critiques and hands on exercises in materials and techniques, this class will prepare individuals for a career in professional comic bookmaking.
Computer programs utilized in this course are Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Indesign. Technical instruction will be supplemented with discussions of relevant comic history and theory. Aspects of story development, marketing and contracting work will also be covered. The class environment is engaging and the instructor will be available to assist students individually during studio times. Worksheets will be supplied. Students are responsible for drawing materials.
No prior experience or background in comics or cartooning is required.
Instructor
Cody Pickrodt is an emerging comic book artist and illustrator. He earned his BFA in Sequential Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design. His bibliography includes: HELL-A, ARTIFACTS, COLD DOG BOOK, NIGHT SWIM, WORD BALLOON, NINJA HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK, GIRLS OF NINJA HIGH SCHOOL, and GOLD DIGGER ANNUAL.
He has taught and lectured on comics, cartooning, painting and illustration. You may find his work in most local comic book stores. His contemporaries include Julia Wertz (Fart Party) The Luna Brothers of (Ultra, The Sword) and Sarah Glidden (How to Understand Israel in 60 Days or Less).
