An Introduction to New York's Art World
An introduction to and gradual deconstruction of the system of institutions and individuals that constitute the backbone of New York's art world. This course will highlight the opportunities and career paths that lie behind every corner of this maze, using New York as a paradygmatic example of the global art world. An introductory survey of the past, present and future of the Big Apple’s artistic context will be followed by chapters dedicated to professional figures, business models, media outlets and institutions of particular interest.
Designed with the emerging artist or art professional in mind, this class will also feature Q&A sessions with established art professionals, fostering an atmosphere of collective exchange and dialogue among the participants and the guests.
